Young people’s sexual health charity, Brook, has welcomed the news that sex and relationships education (SRE) is to be made a statutory part of the national curriculum within the broader Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) framework as announced by Jim Knight MP, Secretary of State for schools, today.
Brook’s Chief Executive, Simon Blake, said,
"The news today that PSHE is to be made a statutory part of the national curriculum is absolutely brilliant. It shows a progressive and bold government that has taken notice of the views of children and young people.
"Brook has been campaigning for this for many years and is delighted with the outcome. Now, at last we can put the systems in place to give teachers and others the training and support they need to work effectively in partnership with children, young people and their parents.”
