Brook position statement - equality and diversity

Brook values the right of children and young people to fulfil their potential, free from prejudice and harm and is committed to meeting the needs of all young people through the development of services that are responsive to their needs.

Brook’s position on equality and diversity

Brook values the right of children and young people to fulfil their potential, free from prejudice and harm and works within the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Human Rights Act which ensure respect for children and young people’s rights without discrimination of any kind.

All public services must be based on anti-discriminatory principles and practices.

Brook believes in the entitlement of all young people to information about relationships, sexual health and emotional wellbeing, and access to comprehensive sexual health services.

Brook aims to treat its current and potential clients, staff and volunteers with fairness, dignity and respect regardless of age, disability, HIV status, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, family situation, trade union activities, beliefs, religion or economic and social standing and to meet the identified needs and priorities of its target population.

Brook promotes a detailed understanding of the needs and experiences of young people from different backgrounds through research and evaluation.

Brook supports the development of services that are responsive to the requirements of all young people which may include targeted interventions to those most at risk of poor sexual health.

Brook therefore believes it is crucial to base its service planning and development on the local population profile and put in place strategies to reach all sections of the local community, particularly high risk and marginalised groups, and to involve young people in identifying local needs and, delivering and evaluating education, interventions and services.

Brook is committed to workforce development which supports its capacity to work with diverse groups of young people and to providing a working environment that accommodates the needs of diverse groups of staff and volunteers.
