It's Your Choice

On a chilly morning in February 2008, Brook launched a controversial new poster and online campaign which uses images of condoms, pregnancy or babyhood to remind young people of the importance of making the right sexual health choices. The campaign was designed by ethical marketing agency, Feel, who donated much of their time.

Brook's chief executive, Simon Blake, said

We are very excited to be in a position to use this very powerful poster to highlight the choices that young people have and remind them of their right, and responsibility, to exercise them. I am particularly proud that we have been able to tackle a very difficult subject with one of the posters, encouraging young women who've had terminations to consider their future contraceptive requirements. The campaign is thought provoking without being insensitive.

The campaign is being supported by Brook's ambassador, singer and writer Mica Paris who said,

We often forget that young people have rights and responsibilities when it comes to their sexual health, and do not treat them with the respect they deserve. Brook's campaign is reminding them that they can chose to have good, safe and healthy sex, and that is a responsibility they should take seriously. I'm proud to be associated with a campaign that works so positively for young people.

Brook's aim is to run the campaign throughout 2008 with different creative executions highlighting the different sexual health choices that people have, and encourage young people to ask for help and advice in order to make informed choices.

Simon continues,

I dare say some people won't be very comfortable with an outdoor poster that has a huge condom spread across it, but, frankly, we have to start taking young people's sexual health seriously and stop standing on the sidelines wringing our hands. Running eye-catching, strong campaigns such as this one is just one of many ways that Brook supports young people to improve their sexual health.
