For a young person struggling with their mental health, the festive period can be incredibly challenging.
Anxiety, low self-esteem, family pressures and relationship difficulties can all feel heavier at a time when many are reflecting on the past 12 months and worrying about the year to come.
When everything starts to feel too much, having someone to talk to can make all the difference. But many find it difficult to access the support they need, with over 78,500 young people waiting more than a year for mental health treatment.
That makes Brook’s support even more vital. Our early intervention mental health services provide a lifeline for young people, helping them before they reach crisis point. With the support of our trained specialists, young people can improve their sense of self-worth and feel empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
In the last year alone, we have made over 3,500 crucial wellbeing interventions for young people through our community hubs. But there is so much more to do. Mental health concerns make up 40% of all our safeguarding cases, with many young people reporting self-harm and suicidal thoughts. A small donation to Brook can make a huge difference to the lives of these young people.
With your help we can support more young people before they reach crisis point this Christmas.
You’ll be helping young people like Kelly.
When Kelly, 13, came to Brook for one-to-one wellbeing support, it soon became clear she was witnessing and experiencing domestic violence at home.
With Kelly and her mother’s consent, Brook made a referral to local domestic violence support services, making sure they received the urgent care they needed.
Kelly continued her one-to-one counselling with Brook and was able to return to school feeling safer and more supported.
You’ll be helping young people like Rizwana.
At 18, Rizwana came to Brook struggling with her feelings of anger and abandonment, stemming from problems at home with her family. Rizwana was also self-harming as a way of coping with her emotional distress.
With the support of Brook’s trained counsellors, Rizwana was able to develop greater self-awareness and begin making healthier, more intentional life choices. She has now stopped self-harming and has started university with a new sense of confidence, self-acceptance and emotional resilience.
Whatever you are able to give, we are so grateful for your support to fight stigma and improve lives.
