Psychosexual therapy

Brook Blackburn

If you’re experiencing difficulties in your sex life and/or relationship, our trained team are here to help.

It’s common for people to experience difficulties in their sex lives at different stages of life. Sometimes these challenges resolve on their own, whilst other times specialist help and support can make a real difference.

Sexual difficulty may be related to:

  • Physical or medical conditions
  • Social issues or emotional and relationship circumstances

Often, it is a combination of factors that contribute to sexual difficulties. These difficulties may have always been a part of your life or they may be a recent development.

How we can help

At Brook Blackburn we offer a free specialist psychosexual therapy service for individuals and couples. We provide an open, sensitive and non-judgemental environment to address problems with sexual functioning and relationship issues, as well as any concerns people have regarding their gender and/or sexuality.

Some of the areas we can support with include (but are not limited to):

  • Addictive and compulsive sexual behaviour
  • Arousal, lack of arousal or changes in your sex drive that feel unusual or concerning
  • Body image issues, including concerns about your genitals
  • Erection problems
  • Premature (early) ejaculation and/or delayed ejaculation
  • Worries about your gender identity, sexuality and/or sexual orientation
  • Severe pelvic pain and problems with vaginal penetration
  • Trouble having orgasms
  • Relationship problems
  • Sexual fantasies or urges that cause you distress
  • Sexual abuse which is impacting on sexual function and/or sexual relationships
  • Substance abuse that is affecting your sex life

Please note: we do not offer a forensic sexology service and, therefore, do not provide therapy to sexual offenders for offending behaviours.

How to access

Residents of Blackburn with Darwen aged 16+ can self-refer to the service for an initial eight sessions of counselling (more sessions may be available if needed). If appropriate, we may refer you to other specialist services.

Appointments run on Wednesdays, and are offered face-to-face at Brook Blackburn as well as online. Commitment to the sessions and the service is essential from the outset and clients who fail to attend their appointments will be discharged.
