Brook Blackburn with Darwen
On this page
If you’re over 16 years old, live in Blackburn with Darwen and don’t have symptoms of an STI, you can access free testing and treatment for STIs online from SH:24.
This includes testing for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis. A quick, confidential assessment will recommend the most appropriate kit for you.
Please note: You can only order one test every three months so make sure you return your kit and that it’s been at least two weeks since sex without a condom to make sure it’s an accurate result. If you need tests more frequently, you can visit our clinic.
Order an STI home test through the SH:24 website by creating an account and answering some questions.
Receive your testing kit in the post and complete it.
Return your test in the post as soon as possible after completing it.
Within a few days you’ll get a text from SH:24 letting you know that your results are available to view in your account.
Both testing and treatment are free for eligible clients. Please be aware that SH:24 may need to speak to you about your test order or results. For information about how they use your data, please read their privacy policy.
If you need treatment or further testing that needs to be done in-person, you will be sent information about booking an appointment and one of our friendly team may try calling you.
If you’re 18+, and don’t have symptoms you can come to the clinic and complete a test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea without an appointment. This Test&Go service is available at both our clinics in Blackburn during certain hours. To test for anything else, you will need to book an appointment.
If you have symptoms of an STI, it’s important that we see you in clinic to determine what tests you need and see if we can fast-track you into treatment. So please do not order an online test.
Instead, to get tested please phone us on 01254 268700 to book an appointment.
Bumps, blisters, skin changes
If you have bumps, blisters or skin changes on your genitals, it could be genital warts or genital herpes. Instead of booking an appointment, you can get diagnosed online through SH:24 and get treatment through the post, without you needing to visit a clinic.
Our friendly team will advise if you need to get tested and book you an appointment if needed. In some cases, we may fast-track you into treatment.
Get in touch with the clinic: by phoning 01254 268700
Don’t panic, most infections are easily treated, and getting tested is free and confidential.
If you’ve tested positive through a test with Brook, we’ll be in touch to discuss next steps with you. If you test positive for chlamydia, you may be able to get treatment posted home. This will be arranged through SH:24 or Brook depending on how you tested.
If your positive test was from another provider, we can support you. As we won’t have your test results, you’ll need to contact us to discuss treatment by calling 01254 268700 .
If you tested through on postal kit, you will get a text from SH:24 letting you know that your results are available to view by logging into your account. If you tested in clinic you will get a call or text from a member of the Brook team.
Usually results come through within a few days.
If you completed an online test but if you haven’t received your results and you sent your test over 10 days ago, contact SH:24: sh24.org.uk/contact-us
If your test was done in clinic and you haven’t received your results 10 days later, please ring the clinic on 01254 268700 or email info.blackburn@brook.org.uk and we will look into it.
Through our online test kits you can test for:
If you’d like to test for anything else, this would need to be carried out in clinic, call us on 01254 268700.
If you’ve had sex without a condom, it’s best to wait 6-7 weeks if you don’t have symptoms before you test. This is because it can take two weeks for chlamydia and gonorrhoea to show up on tests and 6-7 weeks for HIV. If you test before then, the test may not pick up on any STIs that you could have.
If you do test positive for an STI, it’s always best to let your sexual partner(s) know so they can also get tested. We can support you to do this anonymously through our partner notification service.
If you live in Lancashire but outside of Blackburn with Darwen you can get a free STI postal kit that tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis from Blackpool and Lancashire Sexual Health Service. Or you can find your nearest sexual health clinic and find out where you can get a free STI test.
No – the test does not have to be delivered to your home, though this is the fastest way to get it.
If you would prefer to have your test delivered to a friend’s house, workplace or other location please put that as the delivery address. However, please note that free tests are only available to residents of Blackburn with Darwen and can only be sent to addresses within those locations.
