What to expect from how to Deliver RSE course?

This will leave you with an understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice. It will help you to become familiar with the guidance and requirements in your region and will provide the tools to develop a robust RSE policy.

A spiral curriculum means teaching topics that are timely and age appropriate, whilst building on knowledge year on year. This module gives examples of a spiral curriculum in action on three different topics.

This module helps you to check that your knowledge, confidence and skills are where you need them to be. It covers preparation, planning and exploring your own values and expectations. It addresses inclusivity and prioritising safety and boundaries. It also explores safeguarding, providing support, guidance and signposting.

This module will help you to navigate some of the tricky issues that are thrown up by the intersection of faith and RSE. It includes a look at the mandatory guidance and equalities legislation, as well as the lived experience of young people of faith.

This module will identify potentially difficult and sensitive issues for parents and carers. It will support you to implement a range of strategies that will help, including advice on hosting an effective parents and carers RSE event. It also explains how to support parents and carers with techniques they can use to discuss relationships and sex at home.

Recognising some of the barriers to learning that young people may experience in RSE is key to help them overcome them. This module explores different teaching strategies with suitably adapted lesson plans.

Interwoven into these modules are:

  • 23 lesson plans, handouts and resources that will support you to deliver effective lessons on consent, puberty and LGBT+ identities
  • 7 guidance and policy documents to support the implementation of a whole school approach including:
    • Outlines of the RSE Topic Requirements for Primary and Secondary
    • Advice on developing a school RSE policy
    • Questions to consider when developing your RSE curriculum
    • Guidance on planning a Parents and Carers Event
  • 2 animations outlining the evidence behind RSE and how RSE is designed to be age appropriate (great for sharing with parents)
  • Step-by-step overviews of how to plan and deliver a spiral curriculum on consent and on LGBT+ relationships
