A Year 7 lesson to help pupils understand self-esteem, identify influences on self-image, evaluate messages from others and social media, and challenge negative self-talk.

Learning objectives

  • Describe what self-esteem is and why it matters for wellbeing and relationships
  • Identify factors that can affect self-esteem, including comparing ourselves to others
  • Explain how self-talk affects self-esteem and practise reframing negative self-talk
  • Identify positive ways to support their own and others' self-esteem
  • Identify how to get help and support for themselves or a friend
