  • Teachers
  • Classroom and 1-2-1 support staff
  • Pastoral leads
  • Senior Leaders
  • Policy Leads
  • Governors
  • Youth workers
  • Healthcare workers

Are they online or in person?

We can deliver both online and in person professional training depending on your location. Both are facilitated by an experienced Brook Specialist.

How much do they cost and what’s included in the cost?

Our training sessions are charged at a set hourly rate that includes travel within a certain radius. We can offer discounts for larger bookings. The prices on our website offer a guide to how much training sessions cost, contact our team to find out more.

I need support with a particular theme/topic, can Brook help me?

If you can’t find what you’re looking for on our professionals training page, get in touch with our team to see if we are able to support you with a particular theme or topic. Our team always make sure we find the best training session for you.

How many can attend a session?

Most of our training sessions are for up to 20 professionals. This is to encourage participation and interaction, as smaller working groups allow for activities and discussions; ultimately making the training more engaging.

We do have a few trainings that are specially designed for larger numbers if you need to train a larger group of staff.

Are courses CPD?

Some of our training courses for professionals are CPD, these include:

What is a ‘train the trainer’ model?

A ‘train the trainer’ model is recommended for organisations that are planning on training a large number of staff. With this extended training, our Brook experts train a group within the organisation not just on the content but on how to effectively deliver the session to other staff members. This method allows you to train more people in less time and at a lower cost.

We offer the Traffic Light Tool and Sexual Health in the Community as train the trainer models.

Education Sessions for Young People

How much do they cost and what’s included in the cost?

Prices start from £125 per hour session. This pays for a trauma-informed and young person-led session for up to 30 pupils led by a qualified facilitator. Local travel expenses are also included in the price.

Are they available anywhere in the country?

We can deliver digitally anywhere in the UK and we also deliver sessions digitally abroad. For in-person sessions we have teams based around the UK which we can travel from depending on your location and our availability.

How many topics can be covered in one session?

We cover one topic per session, so for example an hour’s session on consent or an hour’s session on STIs. We find this leads to a far more effective lesson rather than trying to cover too much content.

What are the advantages of having an external educator deliver a session?

There are several reasons why bringing in an external educator from Brook can lead to a more impactful and meaningful lesson:

  • Students are more likely to pay greater attention and be more involved and engaged. This can help particularly with problematic classes.
  • Our Brook educators are trained to deal with difficult questions in an age-appropriate way
  • Students may be more hesitant to ask certain questions with their usual teacher delivering the class. For all our workshops we create a safe space and have great engagement from students who don’t normally participate in lessons.
  • Brook educators are trained on how to deliver more challenging subjects in an inclusive and safe way that follows RSE guidelines. This may be particularly important if your school is lacking support with its RSE delivery, whether that’s internally or externally from parents and carers.
What makes Brook’s RSE lessons different?

Brook’s RSE lessons are developed using insights from young people, cutting-edge research, health models and clinical practice. Each lesson is comprehensive, engaging, trauma-informed and tackles important issues around the topic.

Our Brook educators create a confidential, safe space for every lesson which allows young people the chance to discuss and ask any questions they might have.

How many students can be in a session?

Classroom workshops are capped at 30 young people, allowing the sessions to be more interactive and engaging, with opportunity for group activities and discussions in order to explore the topics more in-depth.

Why are workshops better than talks?

We believe workshops are a more engaging, interactive and effective way of learning RSE. We teach all other subjects in the curriculum in groups of these size so why should RSE be any different!

There are specific benefits to teaching RSE in workshops rather than talks. With lessons capped at 30 students, workshops are more engaging and allow more time for discussion and questions. Young people feel more comfortable in this setting to participate and ask questions which Brook educators use to challenge problematic opinions or stigma and safeguard young people in the process.

Certain topics can also be challenging and triggering for students such as consent, gender, sexuality, and sexual harassment. In workshops, our educators create a safe, confidential space and are able to monitor and assess the impact a topic is having on someone, allowing them the chance to discuss or talk after the session.

How does Brook evaluate the success of sessions?

We always evaluate the success of sessions. The data collected through evaluations is used to inform Brook’s development of services, to plan for future development and to evidence Brook’s successes in working with young people. Our feedback mechanisms allow us to measure the learning journey that young people have taken during a session and understand what young people would like to learn more about.
