STIs

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are bacterial or viral infections that can be passed on through unprotected sexual contact.

Understanding the different types of STIs, how to prevent them, the process for being tested and the treatments available, can help to prepare young people for healthier and safer sexual relationships in the future.

This course will support you to deliver great RSE on the subject and by the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Describe STIs, how they can be transferred and how to prevent them
• Outline the range of symptoms that may be experienced
• Understand how each STI and other condition can be diagnosed and treated
• Dispel some of the unhelpful myths about STIs
• Recognise the potential long term effects
