If you don’t have symptoms of an STI, you can test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea for free through Brook Manchester.
Brook recommends testing two weeks after unprotected sex (sex without a condom) to ensure an accurate result.

If you don’t have symptoms of an STI, are aged 16-19 and live in a Manchester City postcode, the quickest and easiest way to test for STIs is to order an STI test kit for chlamydia and gonorrhoea to complete at home and send back in the post.
We are only able to test if you don’t have symptoms of an STI. If you do have symptoms, you can get tested with the Northern Sexual Health Service.
Please make sure you enter your personal information correctly. If you provide incorrect information, you may not be able to receive your test results.
From April 1st 2024, Brook is only be able to provide online STI home test kits for young people aged 19 and under. From this date, if you are over 19, you can order a home test kit from The Northern Service.

Receive your testing kit in the post in discreet packaging, complete and return using the free-post envelope we provide.
Don’t forget to add the sticker to your sample and include your Request Form in the envelope.
Within a few days you’ll get a text about your results, either saying they are negative or asking you to contact the clinic to discuss your results.
Testing for other STIs
We are currently only able to test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea via a vaginal swab or urine sample. If you’d like to get tested for anything else, including if you’ve had unprotected oral or anal sex, you will need to go to the Northern Sexual Health Service.
What if I’m over 19?
You can also get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhoea in clinic if you’d rather or if you’re under 16. You don’t need to book an appointment, simply turn up during opening hours.
Don’t panic, most infections are easily treated, and getting tested is free and confidential.
If you test positive through a test with Brook, we’ll be in touch with you to talk about next steps and support you to access treatment.
We can support you with treatment for chlamydia at our clinic. If you tested positive through a test with Brook and are over 16 you can also request chlamydia treatment remotely via an online form that we will send to you.
Treatment for gonorrhoea, and other STIs, can be accessed from other local sexual health services. If you are 19 or under, the team at Brook Manchester will help you access the service nearest to you.
If you have symptoms of an STI, you won’t be able to test through Brook Manchester. Instead, visit the Northern Sexual Health Service.
You will get a text message from Brook about your results within around 4 days of us receiving your test or completing a test in clinic.
Usually results come through within a few days but if you haven’t received your results and you sent them over 10 days ago, contact us via email on manchester.admin@brook.org.uk and we can look into it. Important: this email address is monitored between 10am-4pm on weekdays only.
You can test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea at Brook Manchester. To test for anything else you will need to go to The Northern Sexual Health Service.
If you’ve had sex without a condom, it’s best to wait at least two weeks because it can take two weeks for chlamydia and gonorrhoea to show up on tests.
If you do test positive for an STI, it’s always best to let your sexual partner(s) know so they can also get tested. We can support you to do this anonymously.
If you live in Stockport Tameside or Trafford, you can still order an at home STI test through Brook.
If your live in a different location, you cannot order a test kit through Brook but we do have a webpage that will help you find out where you can order one from.

The LGBT Foundation also offer a in-person STI testing and STI home testing kits for LGBT+ people aged 18 and over living in Greater Manchester.
