Brook Manchester
If you don’t have symptoms of an STI, you can test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea for free through Brook Manchester.
Brook recommends testing two weeks after unprotected sex (sex without a condom) to ensure an accurate result.

We’ve teamed up with SH:24 to bring you quick and easy at-home testing for STIs.
If you are between 16 and 19 years old, live in Manchester City and don’t have symptoms, you can order a test now.
The kits that SH:24 can provide by post will test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. These are two of the most common STIs and it’s possible to have one or both of them with no symptoms.
Make sure you use your correct details to order your test else you may not receive your results or we may have to ask for ID.
Please note: You can only order one test every three months so make sure you return your kit and that it’s been at least two weeks since sex without a condom to make sure it’s an accurate result. If you need tests more frequently, you can visit our clinic.
Order an STI home test through the SH:24 website by creating an account and answering some questions.
Receive your testing kit in the post and complete it.
Return your test in the post as soon as possible after completing it.
Within a few days you’ll get a text from SH:24 letting you know that your results are available to view in your account.
Both testing and treatment are free for eligible clients. Please be aware that SH:24 may need to speak to you about your test order or results. For information about how they use your data, please read their privacy policy.
Testing for other STIs
We are currently only able to test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea via a vaginal swab or urine sample. If you’d like to get tested for anything else, including if you’ve had unprotected oral or anal sex, you will need to go to the Northern Sexual Health Service.
If you have symptoms of an STI, you need to be tested as soon as possible so please don’t order an online test. Please phone the clinic for support or get tested through the Northern Sexual Health Service.
Don’t panic, most infections are easily treated, and getting tested is free and confidential.
If you test positive through a test with Brook or SH:24, we’ll be in touch with you to talk about next steps and support you to access treatment.
If you test positive for chlamydia, you may be able to get treatment posted home. This will be arranged through SH:24 or Brook depending on how you tested.
Treatment for gonorrhoea, and other STIs, can be accessed from other local sexual health services. If you are 19 or under, the team at Brook Manchester will help you access the service nearest to you.
If you have symptoms of an STI, you won’t be able to test through Brook Manchester but you can still phone us for support. To test please visit the Northern Sexual Health Service.
If you tested through on postal kit, you will get a text from SH:24 letting you know when your results are available in your account. If you tested in clinic you will get a call or text from a member of the Brook team.
Usually results come through within a few days.
If you completed an online test but if you haven’t received your results and you sent your test over 10 days ago, contact SH:24: sh24.org.uk/contact-us
If your test was done in clinic, email us on manchester.admin@brook.org.uk and we can look into it. Important: this email address is monitored between 10am-4pm on weekdays only.
You can test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea at Brook Manchester. To test for anything else you will need to go to The Northern Sexual Health Service.
If you’ve had sex without a condom, it’s best to wait at least two weeks because it can take two weeks for chlamydia and gonorrhoea to show up on tests.
If you do test positive for an STI, it’s always best to let your sexual partner(s) know so they can also get tested. We can support you to do this anonymously.
If you live in Stockport Tameside or Trafford, you can still order an at home STI test through Brook.
If your live in a different location, you cannot order a test kit through Brook but we do have a webpage that will help you find out where you can order one from.
